About the School

Cäcilienschule is a German Gymnasium founded in 1867. A Gymnasium in Germany is a type of school for higher level education for students from grade 7 to 13 (age 12 to 19). Grade 13 ends with final examinations called "Abitur" which is mandatory for studying at a university. About 30 % of German pupils pass the Gymnasium.
Cäcilienschule is attended by about 580 students, 60% being girls. There is a long tradition of music, acting and dance as extracurricular activities.
In 1991 Cäcilienschule became a co-operating member of ASP, the Associated Schools Project of UNESCO.
Also since 1991 Cäcilienschule has been active with telecommunication projects.
